Oooh Boy

Posted by Blake under Uncategorized

Well, I’ve said it before, but Never Again.

Emmy invited me to a party her friend was throwing at a night club. I got all dressed up in slutwear, only in turns out the party was a private event (they rented out the club) and everyone was mostly wearing casual attire, except the birthday girl who wore a gown.

Hehe, how embarrassing. So I started knocking back the drinks so I wouldn’t care as much- seemed to work like a charm.

A couple of Emmy’s friends joined us for a bit, one of them buying me a drink. Hmm, would have been cool to talk to her a little more.

So after that we went down to a bar in the Castro. Since there were literally only three other people, we walked down a couple of blocks to The Bar, which had a healthy dance scene.

By this time I was about five drinks in, and after topping off with two more was comfortable enough to “dance”.

All in all it was a fun time. Of course, I had to pay for it the next morning. And early afternoon. After I was well enough to take stock of things, I saw that I lost my Passport and went through about $100 on drinks, cab fare, cover charges, etc.

At least I managed to track down my passport. (Dropped it at the second club).

Well, I think the night was worth it. I really don’t “party” too often and it was nice to get out with friends.

Hello

Posted by Blake under Uncategorized

Hey guys, it’s been a while, hasn’t it?

So what has happend?

A little more than the usual work stuff.  First, my Great Grandmother passed away earlier this week.

I haven’t seen her in years, but I vividly remember the trip we made out to her rural town when I was a kid.  I still have some pictures from that trip- jumping naked into a lake.  Standing next to my smiling Mom, trying my ten year old best to look tough.

Lot of memories there.  Well, she had a full life, and she’ll be missed.

Later in the week my Mom was hospitalized for chest pain, but it seems she’ll be OK- she just needs to cut back on the Cholestrol.  This was a month after I had a nightmare about her dying of a heart attack, one of those dreams where you’re screaming and sobbing, stuck in slow motion.

Relationship Status:  …   …?

“Miles” and I broke up.  I think it was very adult and civil.  Despite certain fantasies, the reality is I don’t think I’m quite ready for a sexual relationship with a Man yet.  Plus I’m discoverying a boat load of intamcy issues.

As I mentioned though, I started seeing someone else recently, and “Ally” and I are having fun.  We haven’t gone beyond making out yet, but so far I’m still in my comfort zone.  Though how long can I stay in this bubble?

Well, it’s getting late and I should <goto> Bed.  I’ll try to post again sooner.  In the meantime, check me out on Twitter:  www.twitter.com/blakebevin

I’m a little more active on there.

Peace & Love

In Like a Lion…

Welcome to March. I don’t know about the Scientific Validity of the above idiom, but the weather has been pretty dramatic. Torrential Rain and Hail, as of late.

Not that I mind- I rather like heavy rain storms. I also don’t feel like I’m wasting a beautiful day by sitting inside on the computer.

But despite a shaky day at work, I think things are going ssWeelll. I got a new theme I’m trying out for the ole blog.

I also saw that they released the Kindle app for the iPhone!  That surprised me- I thought they’d try to milk the Kindle 2 release for awhile.  Way to go Amazon!

Some may have noticed the ‘Gadget Review’ section I tossed up top.  I figured since I’m buying all this tech, I’d put my thoughts about it in one place instead of cluttering it up down here.  For my first “gadget” review, I thought the Kindle app would be a good start, so here you go.

I’m sure more will follow- maybe I’ll properly review my Macbook Pro, and I’ve got my eye on a couple of other things…

Anyhoo, there’s some other Feel Good stuff happening, but it’s getting late and I should turn in.  Need to get up early to get a shower- there’s only one in this whole stinkin’ hotel that works right now!

Well, the time disappeared again, mostly in the Sinkhole that is my Job. I really feel like I want to update a little more frequently, but there’s simply not THAT much going on, besides the usual. Work, Computers, and New Friends.

Ok, that last part isn’t that Usual for me.

We had an employee that flipped out and quit because of our new No Laptops for Non-Management Policy. (Awww, she can’t play Mahjong anymore…) So, I had to pull a lot of extra hours. The Caffeine Crash usually hits me after work and I nap, and then spend most of the evening soaking in the torrential river of Data flowing through the intertubes.

Exciting, I know, but SOMEONE has to do it. I do break routine though by working on the occasional Project.

In Mac News (Feel free to Skip the next couple of paragraphs) anyone keeping up with my Twitter Feed (Hello? Hellloooooooo, anyone???) would see my RAM upgrade for my lappy came today. I believe after buying a Mac that should always be the first thing. The cost of my upgrade to a 500GB hard drive and 4GB of Ram was about $200, bringing my total cost for my new lappy to $2,100.00, AFTER Taxes. (Keep in mind I sold my old Pro for almost $500)

Basically, besides, a slightly slower processor and half as much Graphical Memory RAM, this puts it pretty well inline with the $2,500 model. So all around, I saved a pretty good chunk of change for a fairly powerful machine that should last me another couple of years, which seems to be my timeframe for upgrading laptops.

That breaks down to about $90 a month. Not too shabby, and on par with the other bills in my life.

Anyhoo, as for new friends I believe I mentioned earlier that I met a friend, “Ally” who also happens to be Transgendered. We haven’t known each other that long, but so far we’re getting along pretty well. We both seem to be total geeks, and it’s made me realize something- I’ve never really had other Dorky comrades before, probably one of the reasons I never fell into the Abyss that is ‘Dungeons & Dragons’.

I’m always the one talking about some new Game or Technology or Computer thing or some inside Nerd joke that gets a blank stare, and it’s nice to have someone to talk CPU’s or Xbox stuff with.

We went out last week and walked around North Beach, gorging on Italian food and stopping off at my new favorite Dive Bar, the Bow Bow Lounge. Chinese woman gambling on the bar, old guys singing Karaoke, and you can smoke inside! (Yeeeaaaahhhh, I cheated a little. Haven’t had one since, though!) I also got to try an Electric Cigarette, which looks like a smoke but contains a Nicotine solution that gets atomized when you inhale. None of the other chemicals or tar! Pretty cool- thinking about getting one.

Sometimes when I hunker down and need to concentrate, a bit of nicotine helps a tad. Of course, everything in moderation…

Anyway, we had a lot of fun and she drove me back home. And, well, we did kind of kiss. More of a peck, really. I don’t know where that’s heading.

I tend to take things slow. Glacially slow. I have intimacy issues, I’ve come to realize as I’ve actually started to For Real date. But I suppose that’s a whole other post. Or Case Study.

Well, we’re getting together again Friday night. Let’s see what transpires.

So things were pretty hectic at work today. Insurance inspectors, contractors, speed freaks, domestic violence, etc. The usual. While this stuff was going I realized our Surveillance System wasn’t outputing footage properly. So I opened it up and found the problem, and a bit of soldering later it was fixed.

But that led me to a second, even bigger problem with our computers that resulted in a lot of rewiring. In the end it took me most of the afternoon, but I felt pretty good afterwards. I think I like fixing things. Nothing quite like crawling around under a desk with a tool belt and surrounded by thousands of dollars worth of equipment in a dismantled heap, knowing that it’ll all be back together again and better than before.

And on top of all that, I was Boot Camping my Pro, getting Windows installed. Just in Case- there might just be a few good Windows Only games coming out this year. I also installed Parallels on my Mac, which lets me access my Boot Camp partition and use Windows programs while I’m still in OSX.

With Coherence, it’s really quite amazing. I can access XP Windows right on my Mac Deskto. Check out some Videos- it’s like magic! (God, I can’t believe I just said that…)

Oh, and on top of THAT, I was on speakerphone with a new TG friend I met recently. Ahhhh, I love Multitasking. (As long as the tasks are something I actually want to do).

And now that the day has slowed down a bit, I’m going to catch up on some of the many shows I’ve been downloading constantly. (500gb of internal storage space! How did I survive so long on 160gb?! Now they just need to make a 2.5″ 1TB drive- One can dream…)
